This fun quilt was made by a new customer Chris. She mailed this to me… I was thrilled when I opened the box! Way cute. I believe this was a baby gift for a grandchild.

Fun pattern to imagine doing. Echo quilted the penguins and did swirls in the sashing. E’s and L’s in the inner border then straight lines in the outer border! Can’t get away from the lines. May be my obsession with Modern Quilts lately.

We are redoing Emma’s room in anticipation of Elyssa’s arrival. She gets the baby room and Em gets an upgrade. Small but new. The quilt I made is actually quilted and I will post about that soon:) FUN!!

OHHH! This quilt has consumed my dreams! Mary made this for her granddaughter. I wish that was me:)

In Google I follow Bunny Hill Designs blog. They have a great FREE tutorial for the Dresden quilt! The inspiration for quilting Mary’s Dresden quilt from this blog. It really was a lot of fun to quilt and I am in the process of picking fabric! (I may have purchased some from Hawthorne Threads!)

This will also be a class that I am teaching this fall through Nicolet. Here in Eagle River.  I will post the photos when I get started. Look it over and start collecting fabric of your own… Then join me in the fun!!

I have been taking pictures like crazy! However, I have not been posting them to my site. My laptop has been on the fritz… It freezes my computer to plug in any USB device.

This quilt is one I finished for Mary after the Holidays. She was very patient! There are two other quilts as well. I had alot of fun on this one. Lately, I have been obsessed with feathers and straight lines… I can’t get enough.

I am hoping to get the rest of my photos up this week. I have ALOT! I have been a busy little quilter. Trying to get it all done before the arrival of Elyssa, which is May 29th. Kinda nice to be able to schedule it out:)

Here is the photos of the Bayleaf class I am teaching this Wednesday in Eagle River thru Nicolet! I had great hopes to get the final border on and get it quilted…. NOT happening! I have decided it was meant to be. I think it will be a better visual aide than if it was quilted.

I think I have contacted all of the people, who I have e-mail addresses for, and you should have your complete supply list. Let me know if there are any questions or issues!

See you Wednesday:)

Cotton Prices

Now this is interesting!!

I was passed this information from my quilt guild… I thought it was a very good read! Particularly the Thread amounts!!

THE ABSOLUTE COTTON-PICKING TRUTH

Superior Threads, June 2011

It is common knowledge that the price of cotton has doubled over the past year. The price of cotton depends largely on supply and demand. — Increased population results in increased demand. — Increased demand results in more cotton being planted. — Weather and natural disasters affect the supply. — Political unrest causes dealers and speculators to bid more for future cotton supplies. Here are some interesting cotton facts: A standard bale of cotton weighs 480 lbs. Last year the world produced 114 million bales. The top five cotton-producing countries:  1. China (26% of total) 2. India (23% of total) 3. United States (16% of total) 4. Pakistan (8% of total) 5. Brazil (7% of total). Egypt ranks number 15 among cotton-producing countries and produces only .0005% of the total amount. That is one-twentieth of one percent. If Egypt is such a tiny dot on the cotton-growing map, why is Egyptian cotton so prevalent?

Why is there so much Egyptian cotton clothing, bed sheets, towels, and thread? The truth is, there isn’t.

The label may say Egyptian cotton but the contents are not. Whether it is due to false advertising misunderstanding, or ignorance on the part of seller, the fact remains that it is incorrect. There is not enough Egyptian cotton in existence to produce all the products labeled as Egyptian Cotton. It would be safe to say that there is 10,000 times more Egyptian cotton sold than grown. Does it really matter? Those who know cotton quality obviously understand that it does matter. Otherwise, many companies would not be falsely claiming that their cotton is ‘Egyptian Cotton’ when in fact, it is not. There is something about the climate, soil, water, and minerals in Egypt that is ideal to grow the highest-grade cotton. It is not possible to tell the origin of cotton fibers by examining them, but your machine will know the difference. A high-grade cotton with advanced processing will be clean, smooth, and consistent.

What about Superior’s Masterpiece and King Tut cotton thread? Superior Threads is the only thread company that can honestly say this: 100% extra-long staple Egyptian-grown cotton. They buy cotton from Egypt, transport it by boat to Japan for spinning, twisting, finishing, mercerizing, dyeing, and winding, and then ship it to the U.S. And it is guaranteed to work in your machine.

How much thread it takes to quilt a quilt?

It depends on the size of the quilt and the type of quilting to be done.

Everyone’s technique is different so the following are only averages. Of course it is possible to use much more or much less thread. These numbers are for the top thread only.

Light Quilting   Medium Quilting . Heavy Quilting

Lap/Crib Size      200 yds            400 yds          600 yds.

Twin Size           400 yds            800 yds          1,200 yds.

Queen Size         600 yds          1,000 yds         1,600 yds.

King Size            800 yds          1,400 yds         2,000 yds

DOUBLE DIAMOND THROW!

I am teaching this class through Nicolet College. The class dates are June 8th and 15th, 2011. The class will be held in Northland Pines High School in Eagle River. This is a plot program for me… as this is my first teaching experience with the college! I am very excited and hope there are enough students to run the class.

Find a friend and sign up! This throw is really a fast and fun quilt to do. I am teaching the throw size in class but you can make it smaller (the size of my quilt) OR larger (up to KING)! Email me if you need fabric requirements.

I would recommend starching your fabrics before class, as we are working with bias seams.  I use Sta-Flo or its equivalent. Dilute 50/50 in a wash tub or plastic bucket. (The tub works too!) Soak fabric in solution, wring out. plop in dryer until almost dry, take out and finish drying by ironing fabric. I do this anytime I am working with bias edges or alot of cutting ( ie: Bargello

I am teaching a class in August called Bayleaf I will have more information on this class available soon. I am in the process of a sample.. Stay turned!!

Contact the college to sign up for class and join me for the FUN!!! Hope to see you soon!

These fabric covered clothespins are just plain fun! I love the colors and patterns of fabric that BlondieBlu used.  Check out her shop, she offers “a bit of vintage for the modern world”.
I found these pins over on sfgirlbybay’s blog where she features all sorts of fun vintage inspiration and beautiful products…take a look!

Kits are available… I am breaking under the pressure! I LOVE it.

I know some of you are having trouble viewing the slide show with dial up. Don’t forget you can just contact me for details as well. Thanks for checking in.
